Students Compete and Learn with SmartEE

On 16 September 2014, the SmartEE pilot inauguration was held in Gap (Southern France).

SmartEE is designed to measure the impact of an awareness-raising campaign towards energy savings on high school occupants. The cluster Capenergies is in charge of providing support to the PACA region for the French pilot: site selection, tenders, and driver installers.

PaulHigh SchoolHéraudGap(Hautes-Alpes) was chosen to host the demonstrator and two regional companies, GridPocket and WIT, installed the equipment. The SmartEE system includes measuring equipment (electricity, gas, water and heat meters, temperature sensors, CO2 probe) that is connected to a final user interface (touch screen and mobile). The internet application allows real- time data energy consumption analysis.

Students located in different classrooms are able to see how they stack up against their comrade in terms of energy behaviour, through a counter point "EcoTrocks®", and are encouraged to reduce the consumption of electricity and hot water. Their effort is measured by their participation in two competitions relying on energy. The goal of this educational experiment is to reduce the facility annual energy costsby 10% in mid-2015.
