SunCool's opening ceremony and the 1st Technical workshop spark the local stakeholders’ interest
A solar cooling pilot plant „SunCool”, developed by REA Kvarner, and installed in the premises of the University of Rijeka Faculty of Engineering was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, the 11th of February 2015, followed by the 1st Technical workshop.
The opening ceremony took place on the site, hosted by the faculty Dean - Prof. Goran Turkalj, Ph.D., with the presence of the Prefect of Primorje-Gorski Kotar County - Mr. Zlatko Komadina, and many other honorable guests.
Prof. Branimir Pavković, Ph.D., from the Faculty of Engineering and a Director of REA Kvarner- Darko Jardas, presented the EMILIE project and the idea behing this investment that – with close collaboration and also finacial support from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County – motivated REA Kvarner to choose this faculty building for the pilot location.
SunCool aims to improve the energy sustainability of the building as well as to promote and support the dissemination of solar cooling technologies for buildings’ conditioning. Apart from cooling the laboratory facilities, heating of consumption water and water in circuits within the laboratories and the possibility of cooling / heating of offices in the periods when the laboratory is not in operation, the solar cooling technology will be used extensively for education and research purposes.
After a short technical presentation, all the attendees – mainly representatives of the energy sector in the region as well as academia, public and private institutions and media, were invited for a guided tour of the SunCool solar cooling pilot plant.
The following day, on Thursday 12th of February, the 1st SunCool Technical Workshop was held, giving REA Kvarner an opportunity to present the pilot also to the business sector representatives.
